I often feel that a print is a photograph, and a web image is merely a preview. I am always happy to print a photograph so it can be seen how it’s meant to be seen.

All prints are made to order, using photo labs and not a home inkjet.
Prints do not have the watermark that appears on the web version.
Prints are signed on the back, on a sticker so as not to damage the print.

While I have some images ready, I am not a retailer, a shop, or a warehouse. You don’t have to select from those – just tell me the size you want, and I’m happy to work with you to get the exact type of print you want:

photo papers and surfaces
After a lot of research, I’m pleased to offer these paper options. If you have any questions about what might best suit a particular image, just drop me a line!
- Fuji Crystal Archive Lustre (or Gloss)
Traditional chromagenic (wet process) photo prints on the best paper around. Up to 12×18 I print locally, which keeps production costs low, and I pass the savings on. My standard is to print on Lustre but can also print on Gloss.
- Fuji Crystal Archive Pearl
A high gloss polymer based traditional chemical “paper” that practically shimmers and glows.
- Ilford Ilfospeed B&W
Any color photo can also be printed as black and white on color paper, and look great. I recently discovered this option, which is a true silver-based resin-backed black and white photo paper designed for today’s digital enlargers.
- Watercolor Smooth Hahnemühle Photo Rag
Archival pigment prints on a heavyweight matte paper; the look of prints on this paper is astonishingly immediate. The look is similar to platinum or palladium prints. These are the only prints signed on the front (in margin below the image area).
- Fuji Photo Satin
Archival pigment prints. Another great economical option that has recently become available to me for larger prints, and again I pass the savings on to you.

Shipping includes print packaging and insurance.
US shipping: $7; shipping is via USPS Priority or First Class. Orders above $250 are shipped via either Express Mail or FedEx economy.
International shipping: $14.
packaging
Generally, prints up to 12×18 are shipped flat; larger prints are rolled. I can use your own shipping account if you like. If you have a special request, just let me know.

I’m in America – prices are in US Dollars, and sizes are in inches.

guarantee
I guarantee satisfaction with color and print quality; if you’re not happy with a print, you may return it and I will reprint either a different version of the image or, if we decide it’s best, another image. (This has only been requested once in fifteen years.)
sales terms and fine print and stuff
All printing is to order, so please allow one to three weeks for most images. Let me know if you have a deadline such as a birthday. (When needed I have turned prints around, including shipping time, in as little as 17 hours.) Prices are subject to change; shipping costs keep rising and affect lab prices. Prints are for private collections. If you’re looking for reproduction rights, or a license for advertising, commercial or editorial use, please contact me. (Advertising and commercial rights are not available for all images.)
a note on margins and paper sizes
Short answer: margins vary. On most 8×10 or 11×14 prints, it’ll be about 1/2 inch on the top and sides, and the bottom margin will vary with the aspect ratio of the image. As an example, on a horizontal full frame 11×14 print, the image size is often approximately 13 by 8.5 inches.
Longer answer: traditional paper sizes are usually in a 4×5 or 3×4 shape, much like a standard television or CRT computer monitor. Traditional paper sizes include 5×7, 8×10, 16×20, and 20×24.
However, most images have a full frame ratio of 2×3, which is a bit more rectangular, like a widescreen HDTV or monitor, or a movie screen. (All three have different ratios, but are all more rectangular than square.) Full frame paper sizes include 8×12, 10×15, 11×16, 12×18, 16×24, and 20×30.
Some images, by the nature of the image details, crop easily to any number of paper sizes and aspect ratios. Others need the exact shape they have to keep all of their important details, whether it fits a standard paper size or not.
Some images work best with a border of about 1/4 to 1/2 on three sides and then a bottom border that’s larger, to keep the image aspect ratio correct. Other images work great on the full paper with no margins. Some images might look great with a large border, a sort of self-matting effect. An example of that might be a 16×20 print of a full frame image, with about 1 inch margins on the top, left and right, and a 3 inch margin on the bottom. The margins are usually white, but can also be black or whatever other color you’d like.
